Yahoo Advertising x SXSW Sydney

Groove for Good

The SXSW Music Festival brought together an international community of artists and music professionals for a unique celebration, including discussion and exploration. In keeping with the roots of this iconic festival, Yahoo Advertising brought Austin Party vibes to the heart of SXSW Sydney in support of their charity Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD).

The event strategy was to highlight MMAD Day, to inspire Australia to support a cause that transforms young lives through music. Internationally-known celebrities collaborated to make a difference through music by dedicating songs to people in need. This was amplified by the use of with the hashtag #ThisSongIsForYou and by tagging @mmadaustralia.

Yahoo created a not-to-be-missed event extravaganza as guests were invited to “dedicate a song to someone” for a donation, to raise money for the charity. The dedications became inspirational for artists Izzy and EV, who bought the song dedications to life through real-life rap battles. Chang Po Ching shared his love of music and bought the audience together with a featured performance.

The event ended on a theatrical high as dueling piano pianos thrilled the throng as they transformed Austin music culture across the world to Sydney. Guests left their innovations at the door by taking the stage for their own song dedications, and engaging with piano players while creating one epic, huge, swirling dance floor. This standout event at SXSW Sydney also raised money for a worthy cause.
